Things That Aren't Cancelled During Quarantine

Hey Hope Ave Fam! We are excited to announce that we will be now publishing a weekly blog post here on our website as a new way to connect to you, our customers and to the community around us.

For a lot of us the thought of being quarantined sounds daunting- even crippling to the way, we live our everyday lives. The mere catching us off guard component has sent shock waves to our brains for a lot of us.

However, this also gives us a new chance to do something we’ve never done before. Breathe. Take it all in. Let all of the moments around us start to slow down and start to enjoy the little things. This is a chance we have to empower ourselves to think outside the box but we know that isn’t always easy.

So. In honor of perhaps your first and hopefully only quarantine- here are our top ten things you can do from your home.

  1. Support Small- Shop online!

This one hits home with us, as a small business and we can’t help but think of all the other small businesses we love that are going through the same thing right now. This is why we think it is so important during this time to share your favorite local cafes, shops, and restaurants. Shop online if you can or buy a gift card for a friend. If we can work together we can all come out of it as a better and stronger community.

  1. Meditate

This one is important, especially for your mental health. Whether you’re in your house with five kids or with your new hubby- no matter who it is we know personal time is important. Which is why we recommend giving yourself at the very least ten minutes. Ten minutes just to be you. Try laying out a yoga mat or a blanket, light a candle and close your eyes and focus on your breath.

Here are a few of our favorite meditations apps:

  1. Do a puzzle

This is a great thing you can do together as a couple or as a family, puzzles improve problem solving, memory and are relaxing. So break open a box and get to solving. Make it special by adding your favorite snack and soda of choice.

  1. Facetime your Family or your Friends

Create a sense of normalcy in your routine by face timing friends and family. Social distancing doesn’t mean social isolation. So, we recommend starting that group chat and setting up a time to connect.

  1. Take on a crafting project

Always wanted to try knitting? Painting? Drawing? Now is the time! We know it can be tempting to snuggle onto the couch and go straight to binging that show, but crafting is known to boost happiness, improve a sense of focus and improve patience and motivation. Unsure where to start? Here are a few local businesses’ you can order craft kits from:

(Emile Stewart is an award-winning artist specifically known for her DIY kits. Emile is from Denton, TX).

  1. Organize your closet

This one we know can be a big task- believe us working at Hope Ave. you know we have a lot of clothing. However, the pay off for this one is big. We know that once you finish this task you’ll be feeling less stressed, clear-headed and left with the things you love to wear.

  1. Binge-watch Netflix

So, this could be one of our favorites on the list admittedly. We can’t help but love a good show and what’s better than settling in with the Hammock Set and eating your favorite candy?

Here are a few that have been on our list:

  • Gilmore Girls
  • He’s Just Not That Into You
  • Love is Blind

  1. Read a Book

Been a while since you’ve curled up with some herbal tea and read a book? Here’s your chance! Nothing makes the time pass than like a good book. Here are a few of our favorites right now:

  1. Do an at-home workout

This is where you can get creative, have a case of soda? Works great as a makeshift weight. But really, we know that staying healthy in a quarantined situation isn’t the easiest task but it is important! That’s why we recommend adding a workout app to your phone- Sweat App is a great one! We also love what local Rebel House has been doing! You can still take online classes and they are even working on giving out bike rentals so you can do their awesome cycling classes at home.

  1. Cook something new

It’s time to try all those recipes you’ve been collecting on Pinterest for years. So why not try something new! This also makes a great date night or family night.

So what’s the gist here? Just because life looks a little different right now, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it to the fullest. We hope that with this list you can find a few new favorite hobbies and/or create a new special memory with your family. Above all else, we hope you stay safe out there Hope Ave Fam. We can’t wait to see you in our stores soon.

XO
